There’s a lot to love about living in the Bay Area. Sushi is cheap and always available, the bright sun is constantly shining, and the Golden Gate Bridge still stands as an enormous feat of engineering. Its inhabitants can wear shorts year-round and the beaches are ideal for expert surfers to test out their skills on monster waves.
Con Brio, which means “with spirit” embodies this carefree, buoyant lifestyle. Their jazzy, soulful pop variation is as lively as the city where they reside. Founded in 2009 by the rhythm section (Micah, Jonathan and Andrew), Con Brio has become a vibrant septet that includes happy horns and shredding guitar. The diverse cast of attitudes, backgrounds, and instrumentation allows them to be effortlessly dynamic and exciting.
Con Brio’s frontman, Ziek McCarter, has been hailed as a modern phenom. His groovy dance moves take cues from classic performers like Michael Jackson, Prince, Little Richard, and James Brown along with contemporary artists Snarky Puppy and D’Angelo. Ziek’s style is insatiable; he spins, jives, and throws his arms into the air with effusive energy often clothed in flamboyant garb. Watch the band don “power shirts” and perform tracks from the “Kiss the Sun” EP on Audiotree Live.
